WANTED: Men and Women of Faith
1 Peter 4:10 -11 "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies - in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him being glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
A GROWING LIFE SKILLS DEFICIT IS ENCROACHING UPON OUR YOUTH, AND THEY RARELY SOLICIT ADVICE. THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU JUST CANNOT GET THROUGH GOOGLE!
As my students prepare to enter the "real" world after graduating, I want them to take charge of their futures, strive to achieve greatness, and impact the people they encounter. This year's curriculum includes a Life Skills class, equipping young men (by no means did we ignore the young women) with skills beyond mathematics, literature, biology, and U.S. government. After mulling over lesson ideas, I asked them what they wanted to know, and their responses were well received - welding, construction, investing, and plumbing, to name a few. These are reputable careers, though when I think of life skills, I also consider growing God-honoring relationships, maturing in Christian character, biblical parenting, transitioning into a respectable profession, and, most importantly, the vocation of sharing the Christian faith. Vocation comes from Latin - vocacio, meaning "summons," which in turn comes from vocare, meaning "to call." We have the vocation of bearing witness to God calling them to work. I VOWED TO MY STUDENTS THAT I WOULD MAKE THIS CLASS EDUCATIONAL, EXCITING, AND TAILORED TO THEIR INTERESTS.
I am looking for persons of faith, professionals, laborers, parents, and mentors to come and share about:
- Man's Role in the Family - Trades - Financial Advice - Operating as a Christian in the World
These young men are eager to learn, and our community has outstanding talents to offer.
Will you join us? Please contact me directly if you or anyone you know can spare 45 minutes on any Wednesday at 1:00p.m. mrs.jharris66@yahoo.com Thank you for your anticipated partnership. Jeannine Harris
